G's rockclimbing b-day party...

We celebrated Garrett's 27th birthday with a party at an indoor rockclimbing wall. It was awesome! Here are some pictures of our fun day. Sorry, they're a little blurry! My camera had a difficult time focusing because there was both natural and artificial light in the room. Bummers... maybe time for a new camera? :)
Family picture with Daddy and his cake.
Trisha and Kyle raced up the wall. Of course, Trisha had the more difficult side and still beat Kyle!
Cade, Matt, Rylee and Lucas!
Look, no hands!
AGH, my camera took pictures with spots!
A weird hold with golfballs. Me at the top!

Back to work...

My maternity leave ended. My time home with Cade went by way too fast and it was way too short. I wish I could've spent more time home with him, but we gotta make money to feed him! I did miss my students, but it's hard to return to them when you know there's a cute, chubby-cheeked baby waiting for you at home. Garrett was able to take the week off so that I could transition back to work easier. It was a big help and a huge relief! He enjoyed being a stay-at-home-daddy! Isn't that funny!

Cade made the return a little easier too; he's now sleeping 5-5.5 hours during the night, so we just get up once to feed him.

We decided we wanted to take monthly pictures of Cade for our photo albums. Well, Kyle offered to watch Cade last weekend so Garrett and I could go grocery shopping and have some alone time. This is what I find on my camera:

SCARY, HUH!We also realized he miscalculated his months. He's old, but not that old.

The doctor recommended that Cade get at least 2 hours of tummy time and not be sitting in anything that might be putting pressure on his head. This is to prevent him from getting a flat head. So basically, she said we should be carrying him as much as we can and he shouldn't be in a bouncer, swing, or his carrier for too long everyday. Talk about getting spoiled! Well, Garrett likes to lean him up on the couch, and Cade absolutely loves it! Once in awhile, though, he does tip over sideways, but he thinks it's funny!

There are so many cool products out there for babies. This is his Bumbo (not Bimbo); it's a chair to help support babies who can hold their heads ups, but not sit up yet. I forgot we had this in the closet and didn't think Cade was big enough to use it. Well, stay-at-home-daddy, Garrett, decides to try it out when I'm at school. Another device to keep Cade from getting a flat head.

Looks like he's trying to drive! What a funny, serious face he has on! Maybe he was trying to poop...

Time flies...

Oops! I was getting really good at updating this every week, but I guess I didn't realize how quickly time has been flying! Cade is 8 weeks old and a joy; we are truly blessed with a content baby. He has his moments, but we love him no matter what.
I'm getting ready to head back to school next week. Three weeks of maternity leave wasn't enough. Luckily Garrett will be taking the week off to help me transition back to work. He'll be doing the late night feedings and poopy diapers! :)

We decided to buy a swing for Cade and he absolutely LOVES it! He even started falling asleep in it! YAH for swings!

We are trying "tummy time" on his boppy pillow and he knows how to cheat by just turning his head and resting on the pillow.

Smiles!
Garrett is a big help on the weekends; he'll watch Cade so I can get things done around the house. I found them taking a nap together this past weekend.

Smiles!

Cade is a very "textbook" baby. He is almost 7 weeks and just started smiling in response to us! YAH! It's hilarious! Next goal is to start sleeping through the night!
He smiles the most when he's sitting up on the couch. I've found that our camera is too slow to take his smiles!
Mr. Sporty is still going through sibling jealousy (hmm...sounds like someone else!) Found him lying on Cade's surfboard with his head on the pillow.

We had our annual Labor Day weekend picnic at a beach in Seattle.
As always, we enjoyed each other's company and LOTS of food. Despite it still being summer, we were all bundled up and had a bonfire going!
The boys played football. All the girls laughed because we knew we would hear their complaints the next day of how sore they were.
I have no idea what they were doing! Then they started dancing!

Frisbee golf and the zoo...

We went to play frisbee golf with Garrett's coworkers Friday evening. We didn't realize they have actual frisbee golf courses! Pretty cool! Plus you even use different types of frisbees, just like golf clubs, according to the distance to the "hole". Forgot to take a picture of the "hole"; it was about a 4 foot tall pole with a colored flag on it and chains hanging vertically. You have to get it in the chains for it to count.
Cade is getting bigger! We sat him up in the recliner and he enjoyed it! Here are a few cute faces we caught. We call him our Cabbage Patch Kid because of his cute chubby cheeks!
We decided to go to the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium to enjoy the sun and walk around. Cade was up for about 5 minutes, then decided he'd rather sleep. We still had a great time, despite how crowded it was on a hot summer day. Cade decided to wave hello to everyone as we snapped this pic.
Here's a few of our favorite animals.
The meerkats checking us out!
One of my favorite animals, the otters!
Garrett's favorite, the snakes! He steered away from a zoo keeper who had one out to pet.
The beluga whales and seals live and play together. One of the whales was just hanging out on the platform, sunbathing. The other whale was playing with the seals; they would swim around the pool together and the whale would play bite the seals.

1 month old!

Our little peanut is a month old already! We were looking at pictures of when he was just born and he's changed a lot in just a month. He can now turn is head side to side and look around. He also is a very happy morning baby- loves to smile and is starting to giggle. Cade has also started to play more with his hands and can soothe himself to sleep most of the time.
Garrett wanted to see if the sling would fit him. It's tight on him, but fits. The reason why he wants it to fit is because...
he can play video games and calm Cade at the same time, instead of having to hold him like this. FYI- that's the Wii Fit game G is playing. It's worth it! So much fun to exercise by playing silly games! This game G is playing is a hula hoop spinning game- all you do is rotate your hips to keep the hula hoop on. FUN! Oh, and yes, Cade is asleep in his arms.
Garrett's favorite video game, Madden 2009, came out last week. So, of course, he wants to play it and hold Cade at the same time. Luckily, Cade doesn't care how he's being held and fell asleep.
We call him the "beast" when he gets mad- boy does he have a set of lungs! Luckily, the "beast" doesn't come out too often and is easy to calm down. We tried to get a 1 month picture of him; bad timing! He was mad because he had just gotten a bocha and was cold. Plus, I tried the booger sucker on him and he hated it.
So, this is a much calmer, peaceful 1 month picture that was taken at 3 am. Cade has been consistently sleeping 3.5-4 hours during the night! Whoo hoo!

3 weeks old

Cade is a little over 3 weeks old now. Still hard to believe he's that old! He has been such a great baby. Hasn't mastered sleeping longer than 4 hours, but at least he's still consistanty sleeping 2.5-3 hours at a time. He loves to be swaddled, but with the hot weather we've been having, it's hard to bundle him up so much!
I got this sling from my friend Abbie and decided to give it a try. The first time we tried it, Cade hated it! I don't think I had him in the right way. Now, he loves it and falls asleep during the short walk to the mailbox! He doesn't look like he's that comfy, but I'm not waking a sleeping baby!

Garrett works 4 days a week, for 10 hours each day (or what we call 4 10's), so he doesn't get to spend as much time with Cade as I do. Every night when Garrett gets home he gives Cade a bocha. Garrett and Cade love their bath time together! Garrett has perfected the temperature of the water, and Cade just stares at him and enjoys it!

Cade was born with a full head of hair, but not very long. It's growing and can almost be spiked to make a mini mohawk!

Tummy time! Most of the time Cade falls asleep instead of exercising his neck!

Sporty realized that Cade's "surfboard" that he practices Tummy time on is very comfy! Grandma would have a fit if she saw Sporty doing this in person! :)
